In The Day of the Jackal (1973), the Jackal also drives a white Alfa Romeo, albeit an earlier model. Something about Lashan just didn’t work for me – I can’t pinpoint exactly what.
I’m not sure why they cast him in this role
It wasn’t terrible, but it bothered me the whole time. :(Eddie Redmayne is absolutely right as the killer, bringing an icy, magnetic energy to the role.
His performance as a business intelligence agent comes across as flat and a bit banal
He’s scary, but you can’t take your eyes off him, and his every move seems very calculated. Redmayne’s combination of charm and menace is perfect, making the character both fascinating and disturbing, as I said.
A film that thrives on detail and complexity lacks the depth you’d expect, which makes it worth watching, even if Lynch’s mistakes take away some of the impact
